On August 22, 2025, eight individuals of the invasive red-eared slider turtle species (Trachemys scripta elegans) were received at the Rescue Center for Invasive Alien Turtle Species, located within the Visitor Center The Drava Story in Noskovci.
The turtles were delivered by the staff of the Public Institution for the Management of Protected Areas of Vukovar-Srijem County, in cooperation with the Public Institution for the Management of Protected Parts of Nature and the Ecological Network of Virovitica Podravina County.
This invasive alien species poses a threat to the conservation of native species, particularly the European pond turtle (Emys orbicularis). Therefore, its removal from natural habitats plays an important role in biodiversity protection.
Each individual placed in the Rescue Center contributes to reducing pressure on native species, as this helps mitigate the negative effects of competition between red-eared/yellow-bellied sliders and the European pond turtle.
