In the park of the Visitor Center The Drava Story from September 2017, there is also a Recovery Center for white storks.
It was built and arranged in cooperation with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Energy and AWAP (Center for the care of confiscated and injured protected animals), with the support of Virovitica Podravina County.
The employees of the Public Institution take care on a daily basis about white storks who have lost the ability to live independently in nature due to various injuries. A large number of white storks were brought after convalescent period from the AWAP, after medical care.
Every year, the Recovery Center also serves as a temporary home for slightly injured withe storks, as well as for those who have not started on the migration, so they spend the winter in the Recovery Center. The Recovery Center, in addition to caring for the white storks, also has an important educational role.
