With the aim of raising public awareness of the need for more effective protection and enhanced conservation of natural values, International Drava River Day is celebrated every year on 23 September.
Yesterday, on 20 September 2026, the Public Institution for the Management of Protected Parts of Nature and the Ecological Network of Virovitica-Podravina County organised the third celebration of Drava Day as part of the project activities of Preserving and Restoring Floodplain Forest Habitats along the Mura-Drava-Danube Rivers (LIFE22-NAT-AT-LIFE RESTORE for MDD), under the acronym LIFE RESTORE for MDD.
The participants gathered at the Visitor Centre The Drava Story, where they were welcomed with an opening speech by Tatjana Arnold-Sabo, Director of the Public Institution for the Management of Protected Parts of Nature and the Ecological Network of Virovitica-Podravina County.
The activities continued on the banks of the Drava River in the Municipality of Sopje. Berislav Androš, Mayor of the Municipality of Sopje, welcomed all participants, while Tatjana Arnold-Sabo, Director of the Public Institution, presented the LIFE RESTORE for MDD project.
During an eight-kilometre canoe trip, despite the low water level, participants had the opportunity to experience the beauty of the Drava River and discover its rich biodiversity.
Following the water-based activities, all participants returned to the Visitor Centre The Drava Story, where they continued socialising and sharing their experiences.
